2006-07-31, 17:32 Setting up mySQLdumper on a JaguarPC Server |
  |
G'day,
I've been going through the process of rolling out mySQLdumper onto some of the Etomite CMS based web sites I have hosted with JaguarPC.
I had many problems getting mySQLdumper to work, mostly because of my lack of knowledge of Linux. I even discovered a bug in mySQLdumper along the way. But with the help of the mySQLdumper team, the JaguarPC support team and many others, I now have it working just great.
By way of thanks, I have prepared a detailed Step-by-Step Guide on how to Setup mySQLdumper on a JaguarPC Server. See http://www.jaguarpc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14590.
This guide should be easy to follow and adapt for use on your web host account.
Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Hi Lloyd,
great guide - good stuff.
This should be very useful for JaguarPC-User.
Just one small suggestion for the directory protection.
You can try to set the maindir of MySQLDUmper to CHMOD 0777, then establish the protection and then CHMDO back to 0755.
This way MySQLDumper should be able to create the .htaccess on its own without botherig the user to do it manually.

G'day,
Thanks for the tip. I will give that a go.
By the way, would you know of a solution out there for setting up and managing incremental backups of changes to the file system along the same lines that mySQLdumper handles MySQL database backups?
Or is that going to be your next project?
Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Hi,
DSB will be offline for a few days.
Well, MySQLDumper is not directly incremental -- it's always a full backup that you get.
Maybe you can use rsync for backing up your files -- the algorithm behind it will only transfer the bytes that have changed, not the whole bunch of files.
Best Regards,
NiMhurchu

G'day,
I'd like to find something that lets me manage the process the way mySQLdumper does.
I can find examples of people doing stuff using all forms of scripts, some of which are based on rsync.
But none seem to take it to the level of providing a way to properly manage and monitor the process the way myDQLdumper does.
Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Hi,
I see -- the functionality is there, but no monitoring/logging functions as in MySQLDumper. Well then, maybe you want to take the file backup tool you like best and have somebody add some more monitoring functions?
Best Regards,
NiMhurchu
