Hi,
the dumper told me to create the 2 .ht... files for the protection manually, which I did, but I still I am not asked to fill in a password, when I open the dumper ...
What shall I do now?

Check you vhost config for AllowOverride Auth

Of course. Read the manual of apache.
This option allows to ask for a login via .htaccess. If it is set to none the .htacess file is ignored, like you already noticed. 
But this has to do with the configuration of your web server and is not the topic of this support board. Get further information in the docs of apache or switch to a board dealing with this topic.
