I cannot fix an external extension.
Just deactivate compression in the configuration of the perlscript.
There is nothing more I can do for you.

This is not the output of the latest version.
Maybe you forgot to copy the new perlscript to your cgi-bin-folder?

Configurable functions for crondump.pl (these moduls are only needed when explained option is turned on):
testing Compress::Zlib (needed for dumping data into a crompessed *.gz-file)...
Found modul Compress::Zlib ver 2.001. OK. crondump.pl can write compressed backups.
testing Net::FTP (needed if you want to transfer backups to another server)...
Found modul Net::FTP. OK - crondump.pl can send backups via FTP.

Compress::zlib version 2.001 is buggy and cannot handle the append-parameter. I pointed out that issue and the developer reacted and bugfixed the version. Take a look here: http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=24041
Ask your host to up- or downgrade the modul.
You need to do this in order to use the compression! I thought you understood that before, because I already pointed that out to you.

Where does this come from?
Please make a clean, fresh install of MSD in an empty directory!
