I have a .htaccess file configured for my main site. I installed mySqlDumper 1.24.4 in a subdirectory. When I enable directory protection, a .htaccess and a .htpasswd file are created. Immediately I get an error 404 (not found). I found out that if I remove the .htaccess file in the main directory, I can login mySqlDumper. But i need the main .htaccess file.

I cannot find a solution in this forum or elsewhere on the web. I did not succed in modifiying the main .htaccess. Please help.

Place MySQLDumper outside your main htdocs-folder, createa subdomain and let it point to the MySQLDumper directory.
This way both .htaccess files won't interfere.

DSB, thanks for your suggestion. I have created a subdomain and can call MySqlDumper. If I create directory protection I get the login window, but login fails. I tried MD5 and SHA1 (Linux system, Crypt fails probably because I use more than 8 characters).

I have to be careful, because yesterday I was blocked by my provider because I had more than 5 unsuccessful attempts. Do you have any more suggestions?

Some hosting providers offer different solutions for creating a directory protection via a .htaccess file.

Maybe in your control panel for your webhosting contract there is an option where you can create a specific protection for that subdomain folder without creating a manual .htaccess ...

Right! Via the cPanel I could protect the directory and this works OK. Thanks for the help.
