PostPosted: 2011-08-07, 18:29    Backup appears to be running twice! Reply with quoteBack to top

My backup has been running perfectly for some time now. Recently it has started to run twice in succession.

I have it set to run every 6 hours which it does, for example, it runs at 6pm but another backup runs at 6.01pm

I've checked all settings and just can't see why it's doing this.

Anyone any ideas please?

The only possible reason why it is running twice is that you have configured two different cronjobs or that your cron-daemon goes crazy. Wink

If you only can see one configured crojob, you might want to restart your cron-daemon. If you can't do so contact your host.

Everything checked out with the host company. Backup only appears to be running once on each occasion but is sending 2 email reports!

Do you really get two backup files, or just two emails?

Maybe you get on email from your cron-daemon which sends you the output of the crondump.pl-Script and one mail from MySQLDumper itself. Watch the sender and the content of the mails!

Both emails are identical apart from sender details as below:

EMAIL 1 - Cron Daemon [root@server.dns-table.co.uk]

EMAIL 2 - CronDaemon [dyesubfo@server.dns-table.co.uk]; on behalf of; Cron Daemon [root@server.dns-table.co.uk]

Did you activate the sending of e-maisl in MySQLDumper?

Which sender adress did you provide there?

Yes, it has been activated since I set it up. I save all; backups to one host and then get the latest one copied across to another host.

I usually (used to) get the one email confirming each backup was successful.

These duplicate emails come through to the same email address.

Slight edit to the above: I disabled Email notification in dumper y/day but still get emails....could this be from my Cronjob running?

My apologies, I understood :-) I can see now that the Cronjob IS set up to send an email, not sure why there's two emails coming through as it appears to be disabled in dumper config.

I will disable the Cronjob notification, it tells me to use this command: mycommand >/dev/null 2>&1

Do I just add this to my Cronjob? Currently reads.....

perl /home/.../crondump.pl -config=mysqldumper -html_output=0

That's what this support forum is for.

Yes, this tells the cronjob to send the output of our script to dev>null, which means that it is pushed into a virtual dustbin. This way it is deleted and won't be mailed to you.

So my full job should read...

perl /home/.../crondump.pl -config=mysqldumper -html_output=0 mycommand >/dev/null 2>&1

or do I change the output on the end?

No. "mycommand" - of course - is a placeholder for the MySQLDumper call. Wink
So it should read:

perl /.../crondump.pl -config=mysqldumper -html_output=0 >/dev/null 2>&1

Btw.: don't post absolute paths of your server because this might be an interesting information for potential hackers (I will edit your post and remove that)!
